But U.S. businesses instead of giving these profits to their CEO's, executives, and shareholders COULD be hiring 40-50 million unemployed or underemployed WORKERS NOW !! Deregulation of banking created bad loans, bundling loans into securities, & heavy leverage of those securities (illegal before 99). The bill that did this was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (R-Texas) and in the House by by Jim Leach (R-Iowa) in1999. It was passed by a Repub majority, along party lines 54?44 in the Senate and a 343?86 vote in the House .
